BITSAT entrance exam is a computer-based entrance exam conducted by BITS, Pilani for various integrated first-degree programmes such as B.E., B.Pharm., and M.Sc. Candidates who pass the entrance exam are provided admission to any of the three BITS campuses – Pilani, Hyderabad, and Goa.

The application forms for BITSAT 2019 online entrance exam will be commenced from 1st week of January 2019. Following are the important dates related to the BITSAT 2019 exam.

BITSAT Entrance Exam Eligibility

There are certain guidelines that candidates need to follow to be eligible to take the BITSAT exam. Following are the eligibility criteria that candidates will need to meet in order to be eligible for taking the exam.

AGE Eligibility:

There is no age restriction prescribed for the BITSAT exam.

Educational Eligibility:

  • For admission to all the programmes except B.Pharm: Candidates must have passed the 12th class examination from a recognised Central/State Board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and good proficiency in English.
  • For Admission to B.Pharm: Candidates must have passed a 12th class examination from a recognised State/Central Board or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and good proficiency in English. Candidates with PCM subjects can also apply for Pharmacy Programme.

Admission to all the programmes in BITS is subject to the following conditions:

Candidates must have obtained at least 75% marks in aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology (depending on whether the candidate has taken Mathematics or Biology in BITSAT) in their 12th class examination. While in aggregate, a candidate needs to score 75% marks, it is mandatory for the candidates to score at least 60% marks in subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology individually.

Passing Status:

Candidates who are appearing in their 10+2 examination in the current year or who have passed their qualifying exam last year are considered eligible for BITSAT exam organized for the current year. In case, a candidate has appeared for the 10+2 examination or equivalent more than one attempt, then the recent performance of his/her will be taken into consideration and that too only if the attempt has been for all the component of subject/courses mentioned.

If a candidate has passed 10+2 or equivalent examination last to last year or before that will not be eligible to take current year’s BITSAT entrance examination. Moreover, students who are studying at present in BITS in any of its campuses are also not considered eligible to appear in BITSAT entrance exam.

NOTE: Admissions in BITS are done purely on merit. A candidate’s merit position for admission is completely based on the marks scored by him/her in the BITSAT exam. However, the eligibility of the candidate is subject to meeting the minimum marks required in the 12th class examination, as stated earlier.

Direct Admission to Board Toppers

Candidates having the first rank in their respective state or central boards in India are given direct admission to the programme of their choice, irrespective of the BITSAT score as per the eligibility conditions. Generally, the details about this scheme are made available at BITS admission site by the first week of May.

Guide to Fill BITSAT Application Form 2019

In order to be eligible to take BITSAT exam, a candidate needs to fill the application form online through the official website of the BITS. To know how to fill BITSAT application form 2019, you can follow the instructions provided below. However, before filling the form, you will need the following documents:

Steps to fill BITSAT Application Form

Candidates looking to appear for the BITSAT exam will need to apply in the prescribed application form available at website – http://www.bitsadmission.com. The prescribed fee for BITSAT exam will be around Rs.2950 (approx) for male candidates and Rs.2450 (approx) for female candidates.

  1. To begin filling the application form, enter your personal and academic details in the provided fields and proceed further. You will get a unique application number which you will need for future reference.
  2. Next, you will need to upload scanned images in the prompted fields. Make sure the size of the images is as suggested – 4Kb to 50KB (for Photograph) and 1KB to 30KB (for Signature).
  3. Make sure to review the information entered in the form for successful registration of your BITSAT application form.
  4. After that, you will need to make the payment of application fee. You can pay the application fee via debit/credit card or through internet banking. To make an offline payment, you can pay through a bank challan.

NOTE:

  • In addition to filling the BITSAT application form, you will also need to apply for admission to BITS giving details of 12th class marks and preferences to various degree programmes provided at the different Indian campuses of BITS.

BITSAT Entrance Exam Syllabus

BITSAT exam is mainly based on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology. The topics and concepts of these subjects considered for the exam are based on the Class 11th and Class 12th NCERT Books. BITSAT Entrance Exam Pattern

BITSAT entrance exam is a 3-hour long computer-based test (CBT) without break. The entrance exam consists of four sections:

  • Part 1: Physics
  • Part 2: Chemistry
  • Part 3: (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning
  • Part 4: Mathematics or Biology (for B.Pharm candidates)

There are a total of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), each question with choice of 4 answers where one of them will be correct. Each correct answer carries 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark). The number of questions asked from each part is as follows:

  • There is no time limit for the individual sections of the exam.
  • In case the candidate answers all the 150 questions (without skipping any question), he/she is given the option to attempt another 12 extra questions, provided there is still time left.
  • The extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology only (4 questions from each section).
  • Once the candidate has opted for the extra questions, he/she will not be allowed to rectify the previous answer 150 questions.

BITSAT Admit Card

Generally, BITSAT Admit Cards are released on the official website of the BITS in the 2nd week of April. Candidates appearing for BITSAT 2019 can expect the admit card release date to be in this time only. However, it must be noted that the desired slot for BITSAT exam will be allotted for the candidates who would have applied for it.

As bringing the admit card to the examination hall is mandatory, you will need to download it from the official website of the BITSAT. To know how to download the admit card from the website, follow the step-by-step instructions provided below:

  • Go to the official website if the BITSAT.
  • Once you are on the website, click on the “Admit Card” link.
  • Next, you will need to enter the details such as – Application number, date of birth, gender, and email ID.
  • Then, click on the “Proceed” button.
  • You will be directed to your BITSAT account and your admit card will be displayed.
  • Simply download it and take a print of it for future reference.

NOTE:

  • After taking out the print of the admit card, candidates are suggested to paste their recent passport size photograph in the provided space on the hall ticket. Make sure to get the photograph that you pasted on the admit card attested from the head of your institute or gazetted officer.
  • Also, make sure to check your admit card for any sort of errors. Check your name, application number, exam centre address, signature, emergency contact number, subject opted for in part IV of BITSAT etc. to ensure that all the information mentioned is absolutely correct.
  • Along with admit card, you are requested to carry a valid photo ID proof and a passport size photograph.

Instructions that are Given on the Admit Card

  • Candidate should not carry any personal belongings such as a calculator, mobile phone, bags, electronic gadgets etc. in the exam hall.
  • A pen is allowed to the centre for signing the attendance sheet and doing rough work.
  • As candidates will be asked to provide the fingerprint in the exam hall, so make sure that they do not have any paint, henna on their fingers.

BITSAT Slot Booking Process

As said above, the desired slot for BITSAT exam will be allotted only to those candidates who would have applied for it (generally the slot booking starts from 4th Week of March), so, candidates are strongly suggested to apply for the slot booking as soon as the window for booking the slot gets opened. The slot booking process is conducted to allow candidates to choose their desired test date and time slot for the exam.

NOTE:

  • BITSAT slot booking of offered to the candidates on first come first serve basis. So, make sure to apply for it as soon as it commences and not waiting until the last date of slot booking (generally it closes in the first week of April).
  • In case a candidate does not apply for the desired slot booking, he/she will be provided with a slot according to the institute.
  • After booking the slots, the BITSAT admit card will be released.

  2. Next, sign in with your application number and date of birth.
  3. Then, you will need to select an examination centre.
  4. After that, you will need to select a slot as per your preferred date and timing.
  5. On the page, you will need to submit details.

BITSAT Entrance Exam Result

The result of the BITSAT exam is generally declared in the month of July on the official website. The result includes the list of candidates who have cleared the entrance exam. On the basis of the result, the selected candidates are provided admission to any of the 4 branches of BITS. Also, the names of the students who are considered under waiting list are included in the result. To know how to check the BITSAT result, follow the instructions provided below:

  • Once the BITSAT result gets declared, go to the official website of the BITSAT and look for the BITSAT Result “Year” link on the website.
  • Click on the link and log-in to your BITSAT account using your application number, password and security pin.
  • The marks that you would have scored in the BITSAT exam will be displayed on the screen. The scorecard will display the total marks scored along with the number of correct and incorrect answer.
  • After that, simply download your scorecard and take a print of it for future reference.

What If More Than One Candidate has Scored the Same Marks?

In case, one or more candidates have scored the same score or marks, authorities will follow the following criteria to break the tie:

  • Candidates who will be having a higher score in Mathematics/Biology will be ranked higher and considered for admission.
  • If still there is a tie between candidates, candidates with a higher score in Physics will be considered.
  • In case, the tie still exists, students with a higher score in Chemistry will be considered.
  • If even after that a tie between candidates exists, then, candidate’s PCB/PCM marks of 12th class will be considered.

BITS Cutoff

As the institute is known for following a strict “No Reservation Policy” for the admission in its any of the campuses, a student is provided admission in this institute on the basis of merit that a candidate has obtained. Moreover, BITS is known for announcing a separate list for its every campus. Once the result is declared, BITS releases the number of cutoffs, based on which, admission is provided to the students.

BITSAT Counseling

BITSAT counselling and seat allotment process generally starts in the month of May. It is conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS). All the eligible candidates seeking admission to their desired course will need to register online and appear for the couselling process to secure a seat.

The first merit list of the selected candidate gets released in the month of May/June tentatively. The seat allotment process is done on the basis of the merit obtained by the candidates in the exam along with their preference selected at the time of BITSAT counselling.
