JEE Main Admissions 2019 – Counselling & Seat Allotment by JoSAA

The JEE Main admissions 2019 will begin after the completion of January and April exams. The result of the First and Second Attempts will be declared separately on 31st January and 30 April 2019 respectively. The admission process will take place after that.

Though NTA will conduct the exam and declare the result, JoSAA has been entrusted with the responsibilities to carry out the JEE Main admission procedure.

JoSAA, which is also known as (Joint Seat Allocation Authority), will begin the process for all the eligible students. The process is likely to be started from the second/ third week of June 2019 and will continue till the fourth week of July 2019 where the qualified candidates will be required to participate in the JEE Main 2019 counselling and seat allotment process in online mode. JoSAA will allot seats based on the candidates’ performance and merit.

Seat Allotment Process Overview

There will be several rounds where the qualified aspirants need to give their preference of choices online for the programmes, branches, seats and colleges.

The next round would be the document verification, which will be carried out at the time of admission or Seat Allocation Process. The verification of the documents would be done via the following.

  • validate identification,
  • state of eligibility,
  • disability (if applicable),
  • qualifying examination,
  • age
  • category.

Reserved category candidates are required to produce the original certificates in the prescribed format. Not adhering to the rules or failing to provide these documents at the time of admission will result in the cancellation of admission.

JEE Main Counselling and Seat Allotment 2019

Mentioned below is the counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main 2019 for different category candidates in different institutes:

For Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)

All India – It is open for all candidates

For National Institutes of Technology (NITs)

  • Home State candidates – Open only for those candidates who have the same state code of eligibility as that of the institute.
  • Other State candidates – Candidates not from the home state will belong to the other state.

For Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)

  • For Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and IIEST Shibpur- candidates from home state and other states.
  • For Assam University – All India and home state candidates
  • Other GFTIs – Only All India candidates

JEE Main Counselling & Seat Process

Qualified candidates need to participate in the counselling and seat allotment process to secure a seat in the preferred college –

Step 1 – Registration:1

Register with JoSAA by using the roll number and password.

Step 2 – Fill & Lock Choices:

At this stage, candidates need to give preferences and lock the choices. Based on the choices of the programmes and colleges, seat allotment would be done.

Step 3 – Allotment of Seats:

JoSAA will allot seats based on the merit, preference and availability of seats. The counselling conducting authority will organise mock allotment rounds before providing seats. The mock allotment will give an opportunity to students to understand how the process works. It will further help them make the right decision.

Step 4 – Payment & Seat Acceptance:

After candidates are allotted seats, they need to choose the seat and use these following options and remit the fee through e-challan or net banking.

Freeze– If candidates are satisfied with seat allotted to them and do not wish to participate in further rounds, they will have to choose this option.

Float– In case, candidates need to keep the seat allotted and also wish to upgrade their seat, they must follow this option.

Slide– If candidates accept the seat allotted and wish to upgrade the course in the same institute, they will have to stick to this option.

Withdraw– If candidates have already accepted the seat, they can withdraw the seat by reporting at the institute allotted before the last round of seat allotment.

The Seat Acceptance fee for general candidates is Rs. 45,000/– and for reserved category(SC/ ST/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD/ GEN-PwD/ OBC-NCL-PwD), it is Rs. 20,000/-.

Step 5 – Document Verification:

An important segment, students must produce the original certificates (if applicable) at the time of verification. Some of the documents to be produced are as below

  1. provisional JoSAA Seat Allotment Letter,
  2. photo ID,
  3. 3 passport-size photo (similar to that uploaded during the application process),
  4. DOB proof,
  5. admit card,
  6. JEE Main scorecard 2019,
  7. original certificates for SC/ ST/ PWD category
  8. Class XII marksheet.

Step 6 – Physical Presence at Respective Centre:

This is the last stage of the admission process. Those who complete the procedure successfully will be required to confirm the admission by reporting to the allotted college and paying the fee.

JEE Main 2019 Special Round Counselling

It’s not over yet! There is one special round counselling to be administered by CSAB for GFTIs, IIITs and NITs. The special counselling shall tentatively be organised in online mode in the fourth week of July.
