KCET 2020 Exam – Important Dates, Exam Pattern, and Application Process

Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for admission to UG level Engineering, Technology, Agriculture, and Allied courses. Earlier, the exam also covered Medical and Architecture courses. However, now the Medical and Pharmacy admissions are done through the NEET score and Architecture admissions through NATA score. KCET is a state-level examination and offers admission into top government and private colleges in the Karnataka state.

KCET Latest Update –  The counselling process for the KCET 2019 is going on. It started from 6th June and will continue till 25th July 2019. Extended round of counselling might be conducted in the first and second week of August.

The registration process for the KCET 2020 will begin from the first week of February 2020.

From 2020 onwards, the KCET exam will be conducted through online mode as announced by the state Education Minister, D.T. Deve Gowda while declaring the 2019 result.

KCET 2020 Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Candidates must have attained the age of 17 as on 31st December 2020.

Educational Qualification

For B.Tech. Course – Passed class 12th/ 2nd PUC or equivalent examination from a recognised board with minimum 45% (40% for reserved categories) marks. Candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Biology/ Biotechnology/ Chemistry/ Computer Science/ Electronics as optional subjects and English as language subject.

For B.Arch Course – Passed class 12th with 50% (40% for reserved categories) marks from a recognised board. Mathematics is the compulsory subjects.

For Ayush Course – Passed class 12th/ 2nd PUC or equivalent with PCB subjects and English as a study language. The minimum marks required in the exam are 50% (40% for reserved categories) marks.

KCET 2020 Application Process

The application process for the KCET exam is online. Interested candidates can apply for the exam only through the official website. Apply for the exam within the specified time period. Here are the steps to apply for the KCET exam:

  • Visit the official website – http://kea.kar.nic.in.
  • Select the link for the KCET 2020 application.
  • Enter details such as candidate’s name, email ID, mobile number, date of birth, etc. for registration.
  • After registration, you will receive an application number and password.
  • Login using the application number and password.
  • Complete the remaining application form, upload the scanned images of photograph, signature, and left-thumb impression.
  • Pay the required application fee. The details of fee are:
    • General and OBC candidate – Rs. 650/-
    • SC/ST candidate – Rs. 500/-
    • Candidates from states other Karnataka are required to pay Rs. 750/- as application fee.
  • After successful payment of fee, submit the application form.
  • Take a print of the confirmation page.

KCET 2020 Exam Pattern

The exam will be conducted through the online mode from 2020 onwards. Till 2019, the exam was conducted through offline mode. The exam is of 1 hour and 20 minutes and comprises of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) from the following sections:

The entire question paper will be only in english language.

Marking Scheme

1 mark will be awarded for every correct answer. Negative marking is not applicable in the KCET exam.

KCET 2020 Exam Syllabus

The KCET 2020 syllabus will be based on the 1st PUC and 2nd PUC syllabus. Some of the important topics are:

Mathematics: Relations, and Functions, Sets, Probability, 3-D Geometry, Vectors, Matrices, Determinants, Indefinite Integration, Limits, Complex Numbers, Definite Integration, Theory of Equation, Binomial Theorem, Permutation and Combination, Continuity and Differentiation, Sequence and Series, Trigonometric Ratios, etc.

Physics: Electrostatics, Modern Physics, Wave Optics, Ray Optics, Heat and Thermodynamics, Current Electricity, Solids and Semiconductor devices, Electromagnetic Induction, Physics of Nucleus, Wave Motion, Heat and Chemical Effects, Alternating Current, Electromagnetic Waves, Fluids, etc.

Chemistry: Carboxylic Acids and its Derivatives, Aldehydes, Ketones, Phenol, Alcohol, Alkanes, Alkenes, and Alkynes , Biomolecules, Principles and Processes of Extraction,  Chemical Equilibrium, Redox Reaction, General Organic Chemistry, Chemical Kinetics , Chemical Bonding, Ionic Equilibrium, Periodic Classification of Elements, P-block Elements, Transition Elements, Coordination Compound, Surface Chemistry, etc.

KCET 2020 Admit Card

KCET 2020 Admit Card are released online and candidates can download the same through the official website. The admit card can be downloaded using the application number and password. It is mandatory to carry the admit card to the examination centre. Candidates will not be allowed to appear for the examination without admit card. Keep the admit card safe till the admission process gets over.

KCET 2020 Result

The KCET 2020 result is declared through the official website. Login using the registration ID and password. Merit list is prepared based on the performance of the candidates in the examination. The merit list is also released through the official website.

KCET 2020 Counselling

Candidates who qualify the KCET exam are required to appear for the counselling process for admission in their preferred courses. Candidates are required to appear for the counselling process as per the merit list. Applicants are required to report at the allotted college to complete the admission process.
